Lucasarts Is No More

Lucasarts has been shut down by it’s new parent company Disney this morning, in the process laying off some 150 employees. Their two games, Star Wars: First Assault and the highly anticipated Star Wars: 1313, have been effectively canceled. Although it has been stated that Star Wars: 1313 could live on if the game is licensed. Disney’s new focus is to license the newly acquired properties to other publishers and studios for development. Disney has releases a statement stating the following:

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” the statement reads.

“As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

Hopefully someone will pick up Star Wars: 1313 as it was one of the bes things shown at E3 2012.
