According to a report posted by VGleaks, the next generation Xbox will require game installations and have a mandatory “always on” feature for it’s online connectivity. The images in the report have since been verified as accurate. It goes on to say, “Every Durango console will have a hard drive, although its exact capacity has not been chosen,” reads help documentation in the Durango XDK. “It will be large enough, however, to hold a large number of games. All games will be installed on the hard drive. Play from the optical disc will not be supported.” This will be a huge blow to retailers like Gamestop, who makes 85-90% of their bottom line from used hardware and software sales. The document doesn’t really detail if it will be using the “always online” feature of the console for DRM, keep in mind the Playstation 4 has this feature as well, but it is not know if that console will require DRM either. Hopefully Microsoft will finally shed some light on their console and announce it at the rumored event in April. Until then, below is a nice summary of the console used in the document, enjoy. Let us know how you feel about this development and if this put you off Microsoft’s console. Sound off below!!
